CNL Announces 2022 Awards of Excellence Winners
CNL employees recognized for excellence in nuclear research, commercial projects, environmental remediation and workplace safety at annual awards ceremony
CNL ANNOUNCES 2022 AWARDS OF EXCELLENCE WINNERS
CHALK RIVER, Ontario, July 04 28, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL), Canada’s premier nuclear science and technology organization, is pleased to announce that more than 200 CNL employees have been recognized for their outstanding organizational achievements at the 2022 Company Awards Excellence Ceremony, held last week at Festival Hall in Pembroke. An annual program that recognizes employee excellence, the CNL Awards of Excellence were created to celebrate the outstanding achievements of individuals and teams whose hard work, determination and accomplishments have helped CNL implement its scientific and technological programs and its major projects.
As Canada’s national nuclear laboratory, CNL provides nuclear science and technology products and services to federal and commercial customers, works to safely address Canada’s nuclear liabilities, and manages the revitalization of the Laboratories campus. of Chalk River. This year’s winners were recognized for their achievements, including technical advances in clean energy technologies and health sciences, progress on major decommissioning and environment, organizational health and safety achievements, and achievement of business milestones, to name a few.

DF Torgerson Discovery Award
The CNL Awards of Excellence are organized into two categories. The first, known as the DF Torgerson Discovery Award, is named after former CNL Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer Dr. Dave Torgerson, and recognizes employees for generating ideas and new or innovative solutions, significant research or technical achievements, and new business initiatives. This year’s awards were presented to 12 employees from three groups for their achievements, including:
Research and technical excellence in advancing CNL’s actinium-225 production program
Development of a hybrid energy optimization tool (HESO)
Development of remote monitoring of nuclear reactors with neutron detectors for safeguards and non-proliferation applications
Distinguished Merit Award
The Distinguished Merit Award is given to employees who have made an outstanding contribution to improving productivity, increasing revenue, decreasing operating costs, safety innovation or environmental initiatives , the development or strengthening of new or existing partnerships and the exploitation of these results. This year’s awards were presented to 205 employees from ten groups for their achievements, including:
Implementation of CNL Employee Crowdfunding Program 2020-2021
Irradiation and oxidation testing and fuel evaluation for advanced next-generation reactors and small modular reactors
Support for the project to repatriate target residual materials (TRM)
Demonstrate excellence in the conduct of the annual electrical shutdown of the entire CNL site
Design of combined pressure tube and calandria tube dismantling tools
Near Surface Disposal Facility (NSDF) Environmental Impact Statement Work and Clearance Document Submission
Ongoing work in response to the COVID-19 pandemic
Running the Digital Workplace Remote Work Program
Performing SLOWPOKE Reactor Refueling at Royal Military College (RMC)
Working on the CANDU® Pressure tube sample analysis
