WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News/Sputnik – Aug 26, 2022) The Department of Defense is studying small, portable nuclear reactors and direct beam microwave energy to battlefield combatants, as well as direct solar power harvesting in space as new battlefield energy sources that will not contribute to further global warming, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Environment and Energy Resilience Richard Kidd said Thursday. .

“Can we directly transmit energy from one source to another? Can we harvest energy in space and transmit energy to Earth?” Kidd told Defense One in an interview first published at the news agency’s 2022 climate change conference.

The development of small, portable nuclear reactors was another solution being developed, Kidd said.

“We are looking at small nuclear facilities (reactors) for electricity,” Kidd said.

Department of Defense planners were already looking for ways to use microwave and solar energy directly transmitted to American combatants and their units on the battlefield without having to suffer loss of thermodynamic energy, added Kidd.
